During a press conference held by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office on October 14, it was announced that the 2024 Bay Area Semiconductor Industry Ecological Expo will take place from October 16 to 18 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. This event aims to enhance the integration of resources within the Greater Bay Area and establish a “guiding compass” for industrial development, with over 400 renowned domestic and international companies confirmed to participate.
Zhu Yun, the Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission, shared that the expo is sponsored by the Shenzhen Semiconductor and Integrated Circuit Industry Alliance (referred to as “Shenzhen Alliance”). Leveraging the expansive application market and significant industrial project clusters in the Greater Bay Area, the event will focus on key sectors, including semiconductor equipment, materials, wafer manufacturing, packaging and testing, design, and applications. The expo seeks to create a communication platform for deep integration of the domestic and international semiconductor industry chains, supply chains, and value chains. It will develop a healthy ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in the Bay Area by addressing the dimensions of industry, technology, capital, and talent, fostering collaboration and win-win opportunities within and beyond the area.
The expo will gather leading global companies across the semiconductor supply chain, emphasizing areas such as wafer manufacturing, equipment materials, packaging testing, chip design, core components, compound semiconductors, and automotive semiconductors. It strives to be a high-impact international event that leads industry development trends, with a high-standard Bay Area Semiconductor Conference planned to include a closed-door strategic discussion, an opening ceremony and summit forum, along with over 20 cutting-edge technology forums.
In terms of building an industrial ecosystem, this year’s expo will fully leverage the Greater Bay Area’s driving role, providing a platform for precise matching of supply and demand through direct exchanges. This includes the launch of major innovative products, significant project procurement connections, the promotion of homegrown innovation applications, specialized recruitment events, and project investment and financing services. The goal is to facilitate the convergence and integration of technology, products, markets, information, talent, and capital, thereby fostering a collaborative ecosystem that integrates upstream and downstream elements of the industrial chain and enhances domestic and international interconnections.
By the end of 2023, Shenzhen is projected to have more than 650 integrated circuit companies, with an industry scale exceeding 200 billion yuan, reflecting an over 8% growth year-on-year, accounting for 80% of Guangdong’s total integrated circuit output. The city hosts influential leading companies such as HiSilicon, ZTE Microelectronics, BYD Semiconductor, Jiangbolong, and Zhongtou Tianke, alongside rapidly growing small and medium-sized enterprises like Yunbao Intelligent and Kun Cloud Technology, covering the entire supply chain from design to manufacturing, testing, and equipment.
Ding Zhenghong, the Deputy District Chief of Longgang District, stated that the semiconductor and integrated circuit industry cluster is positioned as a strategic priority. The area has preliminarily established a comprehensive industrial chain system involving IC design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, equipment, materials, platforms, and testing agencies, with representative leading enterprises at every stage of the chain. The aim is to develop a high-level, well-rounded semiconductor industry cluster worth hundreds of billions by 2025, featuring robust key nodes aligned with international standards.
The organizing body, Shenzhen Alliance, was established in September 2023, with the Shenzhen Major Industrial Investment Group Co., Ltd. serving as the chairman unit. General Manager Qiu Wen revealed that more than 400 well-known domestic and international companies are confirmed to participate, including ASML from the Netherlands, AMAT, Lam Research, and KLA from the US, Zeiss and Merck from Germany, Tokyo Electron and Nikon from Japan, as well as domestic firms like Northern Huachuang, Zhongwei, Tuo Jing Technology, CR Micro, and Founder Micro.
