On October 25th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced that Finnish President Alexander Stubb will make a state visit to China from October 28th to 31st at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
During a routine press conference, spokesperson Lin Jian addressed questions regarding the visit and China’s expectations. He stated that during President Stubb’s time in China, President Xi will hold talks with him, while Premier Li Qiang and Chairman Zhao Leji will meet with the Finnish leader separately to engage in in-depth discussions on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
Finland was one of the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China, and currently, the relationship between the two nations is thriving. Notably, Stubb’s arrival in Beijing coincides with the 74th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Finland. Lin emphasized that China is keen to maintain high-level exchanges with Finland, continue the tradition of friendship, enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and green transformation, and work together to tackle global challenges, thereby promoting new developments in Sino-Finnish relations.
