In recent years, there has been a growing societal focus on height, leading to a burgeoning industry of height-enhancing products aimed at individuals grappling with height anxiety. According to reports from CCTV News, these products even claim that anyone, regardless of age, can increase their height by 5 to 8 centimeters simply by using them.
A CCTV investigation revealed that searching for the keyword “height increase” on a major e-commerce platform yields a wide variety of products promising drastic results, such as “rapid height increase of 17 centimeters” and “bone growth technology.” Some products shroud themselves in the guise of scientific legitimacy, boasting about gene testing and national patents to mislead consumers.
Typically, these height-enhancing products target minors; however, the market has expanded to include adults as well, which blatantly contradicts basic scientific understanding and raises concerns about deceptive advertising practices. This clearly calls for regulatory intervention to address these misleading claims.
Most height-enhancing products primarily consist of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and proteins, which can aid in growth for children whose growth plates have not yet closed. However, regardless of their effectiveness, these products must align with physiological principles.
Experts have long clarified that once growth plates close, long bones stop growing, making it impossible for adults to increase their height. Any claims suggesting that adults can still grow taller are fundamentally unscientific.
It’s important to note that no height-enhancing drugs have ever received approval from relevant national authorities; furthermore, there is no recognized “height-increasing” function in approved health foods or supplements. Therefore, any product claiming to offer such benefits is likely engaging in false advertising.
In light of this, regulatory bodies should consider implementing targeted actions to address the chaotic market surrounding height-enhancing products. Additionally, tackling false advertising could effectively disrupt the illegal supply chain for these products. E-commerce platforms must also enhance their scrutiny of promotional claims made by sellers.
Past instances have shown that many unscrupulous sellers operate outside standard e-commerce channels or physical retail locations, leaving consumers with little recourse if they fall victim to these scams. This highlights the need for consumers to develop a proper understanding of the situation. When it comes to prioritizing health, mental and physical well-being should always come before concerns about height.
