The Sixth World Media Summit took place on October 14 in Urumqi, Xinjiang, drawing over 500 representatives from 208 media outlets, government agencies, and international organizations across 106 countries and regions.

This year’s summit focused on the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation,” where participants engaged in discussions about the innovations and practices in the media field. They explored the opportunities and challenges faced by the media industry in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence technology.

Andrei Kondrashov, president of TASS, highlighted that AI is transforming the media landscape. He emphasized that no matter how technology advances, human thought and pursuit must not be overlooked. In the context of the current complex international situation, he urged the media to fulfill their professional responsibilities and work together for the social good.

During the summit, a think tank report titled “The Responsibilities and Missions of News Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” was released. Ketevan Guluashvili, founder and director of Georgia’s “Mainstream” Media Center, remarked that advancements in technology and industry standards signify the future, and this summit has provided a valuable platform for media professionals to share insights.

Additionally, attendees are scheduled for a three-day visit in Xinjiang, aimed at gaining firsthand experience of the region’s history, culture, and socioeconomic development, as well as showcasing the true essence of Xinjiang to the international community.

Sherik Koryumbaev, president and editor-in-chief of Kazakhstan’s “Industrial Newspaper,” who has visited Xinjiang multiple times, stated that this visit will enhance understanding of the region and help dispel biases.
