On October 14, 2023, Yantai Port in Shandong Province set a new global record for the single-vessel discharge of bauxite, achieving an impressive 294,400 tons. This remarkable feat was accomplished by the bulk carrier “Shagang Confidence,” which completed its unloading at Yantai Port on October 13, marking the 29th vessel carrying over 300,000 tons of bauxite the port has handled.

In recent years, Yantai Port has partnered with various stakeholders to establish a comprehensive logistics network that connects African mines to manufacturers in China. To date, the bauxite operations at the Boké and Jinbo Port areas managed by Yantai Port have exceeded 360 million tons, accounting for over half of Guinea’s bauxite exports.

As a pivotal supply hub for China’s aluminum industry, Yantai Port has pioneered innovative terminal control technology specifically for dry bulk cargo, allowing for an annual bauxite throughput of over 100 million tons, solidifying its position as the world’s leading port for bauxite imports.

Furthermore, Yantai Port is optimizing its logistics by using empty return trips of transport vessels to carry machinery, project materials, construction supplies, and agricultural fertilizers to Africa. This back-and-forth logistics arrangement has established a robust two-way supply chain between China and Africa, effectively ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for China’s aluminum industry and facilitating the acceleration of “Made in China” products into global markets.
