Nvidia, the leading AI chip giant, announced on Thursday that it plans to supply AI processors to several companies in India, including Reliance Industries, owned by Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani. This move aims to tap into the rapidly growing market for artificial intelligence.

During the Nvidia AI Summit in Mumbai, both Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Ambani revealed that Nvidia will supply its next-generation AI processor, Blackwell, for a 1 gigawatt data center that Reliance is constructing in Gujarat, western India.

Additionally, Nvidia plans to provide thousands of Hopper chips to help build large-scale data centers, catering to enterprises led by data center operators like Yotta Data Services and Tata Communications.

Huang emphasized the potential of India as a major exporter of AI technology in the future. He remarked, “India will be an AI exporting country, contrasting sharply with its software export role. It has the fundamental elements—AI, data, AI infrastructure, and a vast user population. India’s chip design is world-class, and the country is already advancing in AI. India is no longer just a contractor and backend supporter; it will become an AI export nation.”

Despite India’s efforts to develop its semiconductor industry and compete with chip manufacturing hubs like Taiwan, the path ahead is seen as challenging. Huang acknowledged, “Currently, India represents a small portion of Nvidia’s revenue, but we have great expectations.”
