On October 9th, Lee Hsien Yang, the son of Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, took to Facebook to announce the passing of his sister, Lee Wei Ling, who died at home at the age of 69. In his post, he indicated that more details about the funeral would be shared soon.
In a touching tribute, Lee Hsien Yang quoted a eulogy delivered by Lee Wei Ling during their father’s private funeral. She had expressed, “I cannot break down; I am a Hakka woman,” reflecting a sentiment of vulnerability as she felt she couldn’t match the strength of her sister.
Lee Wei Ling had been open about her health challenges on social media, sharing in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a serious brain disorder similar to Parkinson’s disease. Lee Hsien Yang had also mentioned last March that her condition had become “very bad.”
It’s important to note that Lee Kuan Yew was the father of three children: Lee Hsien Loong, his eldest son; Lee Hsien Yang, his second son; and Lee Wei Ling, his daughter.
