On October 15, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China announced that former Party Secretary and Chairman of China Railway Nanchang Group Co., Ltd., Xiong Chunge, is facing charges of bribery and corruption. Following an investigation concluded by the Jiangxi Provincial Supervisory Committee, the case has been forwarded to the prosecutorial authorities. The Jiangxi Provincial People’s Procuratorate has designated the Yichun City People’s Procuratorate to handle the case, which has been formally brought to the Yichun Intermediate People’s Court. Further proceedings are currently underway.

During the prosecution phase, the authorities informed Xiong Chunge of his legal rights and conducted an interrogation, taking into account the opinions of his defense counsel. The Yichun City People’s Procuratorate asserts that Xiong exploited his various positions—including Deputy Section Chief of the Macheng Works Section of the Nanchang Railway Bureau, Section Chief of the Xiang Tang Bridge and Tunnel Section, Deputy Team Leader of the Preparation Group for the Fujian Railway Company, Deputy Director of the Xi’an Railway Bureau, and others—to illicitly accept benefits in significant amounts. It is alleged that he also offered bribes to state officials in pursuit of improper advantages, warranting charges of bribery and corruption under the law.
