On October 26, 2024, the “Jiake Cup” International Welding Competition kicked off in Gu’an, Hebei, as part of the 2024 Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Contest. This event has brought together over 300 welding experts from nearly a hundred teams both domestically and internationally.
The competition features several categories, including the eighth International Welding Technology Remote Competition focusing on new technologies, equipment, materials, and processes; the eleventh International Welding Robot Programming, Operation, and Maintenance Competition; the twelfth International Welding Skills Competition; and the third Virtual Simulation Welding Competition. This event serves as a global platform for talent exchange in welding skills development and technology innovation, aiming to enhance welding skills and foster collaboration in the field.
In addition to the standard competition events, there are also non-standard projects that include welding quality inspection, demonstrations of advanced welding equipment, showcases of cutting-edge welding techniques, as well as specialized performances in welding and cutting skills. These added components aim to facilitate communication and promotion of specialized techniques and skills in the welding sector, providing solutions and resource-sharing avenues for common technical challenges encountered in welding production.
One participant, Dave Schedemann from Germany, is making his debut at the welding competition, registering for the manual arc welding category. He expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m very happy to have the opportunity to come to China and compete with top talents from around the world. This competition not only allows me to showcase my skills but also to learn from others and improve my welding abilities.”
The competition will run until October 30, with awards for both team and individual performances. All participants will have the chance to receive the “2024 Jiake Cup International Welding Competition Outstanding Competitor” certificate, and those who achieve qualifying scores can obtain a skills passport.
This event is jointly organized by the Chinese Council for the BRICS Business Council, the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS International Skills Development Alliance, and the China Association for Science and Technology’s Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Training Center.
