Amid escalating tensions, Iranian military forces stand ready for potential retaliation from Israel. According to a report by the BBC, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed they are executing “precision strikes” against military targets in Iran. Iranian state media have reported multiple explosions heard in the capital city of Tehran.
The Israeli military stated that since October 7 of last year, they have experienced “relentless attacks on Israel by the Iranian regime and its proxies in the region.” They asserted, “Like any other sovereign nation in the world, Israel has the right and obligation to respond.”
“We have fully mobilized our defensive and offensive capabilities,” the military declared, adding, “We will make every necessary effort to defend the state of Israel and its people.”
The New York Times reports that Fars News, affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, has also indicated that several explosions have occurred in Tehran. Other Iranian media outlets have suggested that these blasts were near or at Khomeini International Airport. Witnesses noted that residents flooded the streets in response to the situation.
Residents of Tehran have claimed that the explosions originated from the western part of the city, where the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard is located.
