In a recent event held at Tsinghua University on October 24, 2024, Huawei once again brought its HarmonyOS Campus Open Course to a wider audience, following the successful session in December 2023. The session was led by Yu Zhaoyuan, General Manager of Huawei Terminal in Beijing, alongside Huang Ying, an evangelist for Huawei’s HarmonyOS ecosystem. They engaged Tsinghua students and faculty in a fascinating discussion about Huawei’s brand philosophy and the progress and prospects of the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Notably, since its launch in 2023, the HarmonyOS initiative has hosted nearly 200 sessions across more than 150 universities nationwide.
Just two days prior, on October 22, Huawei unveiled its new native HarmonyOS, referred to as HarmonyOS NEXT, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the platform. Currently, HarmonyOS has evolved into one of the most dynamic digital foundations, boasting over 110 million lines of code. Its market share has risen to second place in China, significantly enhancing brand awareness and developer engagement. More than 15,000 native Harmony applications and meta services are now available, with some applications being updated at an incredible pace of one version per day. The number of devices within the Harmony ecosystem has also surpassed the milestone of one billion, representing a historic breakthrough.
The robust development of the Harmony ecosystem is fueled by a steady influx of talent and active participation from universities. As one of China’s premier educational institutions, Tsinghua University has consistently been at the forefront of technology. It began offering HarmonyOS-related courses back in 2022, nurturing a wealth of skilled professionals for the ecosystem’s growth. The recent open course not only highlighted significant advancements in OpenHarmony’s technology and ecosystem but also underscored its strong commitment to education and talent cultivation.
Yu Zhaoyuan presented a keynote titled “Building a Consumer-Centric, All-Scenario Smart Life.” He emphasized Huawei’s unwavering focus on the consumer, dedication to high-end brand development, and continuous innovation, which have led to the release of premium products and services. He outlined Huawei’s vision for a new ecosystem and comprehensive smart living platform, built on HarmonyOS, aimed at creating social value, accelerating ecological growth, and fostering industry prosperity. During his talk, he also shared numerous classic market case studies that illustrated Huawei’s strategic investments and technological breakthroughs.
Huang Ying followed with her presentation, “Innovation Leads the Future: Building a Harmonious World Together.” She highlighted how operating systems have historically driven waves of innovation in the information industry, and in today’s era of interconnected devices, HarmonyOS presents an unprecedented opportunity for advancement. She encouraged more students and faculty to participate in the Harmony ecosystem and seize opportunities within the world of interconnected technology, contributing to the nation’s foundational software sector.
The successful hosting of the Huawei HarmonyOS Campus Open Course has deepened Tsinghua University’s understanding of the Harmony ecosystem and injected new energy and momentum into its future development. Currently, Huawei has partnered with over 300 universities across the country, and the company intends to collaborate further with educational institutions, developers, and partners to accelerate technological research and iteration, driving the flourishing development of the Harmony ecosystem, and providing users with a more high-quality and convenient all-scenario smart living experience.
