In an interview regarding the recent surge in domestic tourism during the National Day holiday, an official from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism highlighted key statistics from a report released on October 8. They revealed that an estimated 765 million domestic trips were taken across the country over the seven-day holiday. This figure marks a 5.9% increase compared to last year and a significant 10.2% rise when stacked against the same period in 2019.
The official also noted that total spending by domestic tourists reached approximately 700.82 billion yuan, which is up 6.3% year-on-year and a 7.9% increase from 2019.
Focusing on cultural and tourism hotspots, the report indicated that these locations saw a remarkable 96.86 million visitors at night, reflecting a 25.4% increase in foot traffic compared to the previous year. Furthermore, inbound tourism is witnessing a resurgence, driven by optimized visa and customs policies, an expanded list of visa-free countries, and improved services for international visitors.
In addition, travel platform Ctrip reported an exciting trend during the holiday. They noted that the average daily arrival of international tourists surged by nearly 80%, with over 50% of foreign visitors staying in China for more than a week. The growth was particularly notable among travelers from Italy, Malaysia, Russia, and the United States, with daily orders for inbound travel from these countries increasing more than threefold year-on-year.
