In a rather unusual incident, police discovered a burglar hiding in an exhibit at the North Lincolnshire Museum in Scunthorpe after a break-in late Friday morning. Authorities were alerted by an alarm that went off around 4:00 AM BST.
After a meticulous two-hour search assisted by a police dog, Humberside Police found “a man located buried away under a very impressive display,” as they described it.
Speaking about the incident, a spokesperson for North Lincolnshire Council remarked, “This was certainly not the ‘Night at the Museum’ we wanted.” They further noted, “Officers from Humberside Police were quick to respond. Unfortunately, they didn’t find Rexy, Dexter, and Ben Stiller, but they did come across a person hiding behind our display on pioneering archaeologist Ethel Hutchinson.”
Fortunately, the council confirmed that none of the museum’s artifacts were damaged, and the facility on Oswald Road remained open to the public as usual. According to police reports, a 29-year-old man has been arrested on charges of burglary.
