On October 17, during the Fourth China Automotive Quality Technology Conference held in Liuzhou, Guangxi, Li Chuanjiang, Deputy Director of the Certification Supervision Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, revealed that as of September this year, a total of 39,400 effective CCC (China Compulsory Certification) certificates have been issued for complete vehicles.
Li highlighted that with the application of new technologies such as electrification, intelligence, and connectivity, automobiles are becoming increasingly diversified in functionality. While these advancements provide consumers with greater convenience and services, they also introduce a host of new challenges, including cybersecurity and data security issues.
“In this context, there’s an urgent need to enhance research on automotive quality technologies, ensuring the safety, reliability, and environmental friendliness of vehicle products,” Li stated. He mentioned that the State Administration for Market Regulation is continuously reforming and improving the compulsory product certification system, implementing dynamic management of the CCC certification catalog, and promoting the inclusion of high-risk products closely related to consumers, such as electric vehicle charging stations, into the CCC certification management.
Moreover, strengthening international communication and fostering mutual recognition of certifications is a priority. Currently, the State Administration for Market Regulation has joined 21 international and regional organizations for conformity assessment and has signed 15 multilateral mutual recognition agreements and 128 bilateral cooperation arrangements.
Looking ahead, Li expressed plans to develop certifications for high-end quality in areas such as green low-carbon technology, information technology, and smart manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of establishing certification systems in fields like automotive chips, intelligent connected vehicles, and cybersecurity. Additionally, efforts will be made to promote bilateral recognition, support the international development of the automotive industry, and facilitate the establishment of testing and certification institutions in key countries and regions, or collaboration with testing and certification institutions in major export markets, to better integrate Chinese automotive products into local markets.
