In a recent interview, we explored the profound legacy of the Long March, a monumental feat in human history that embodies the indomitable spirit of the Chinese Communist Party and the brave soldiers of the Red Army, who forged this great journey with their blood and sacrifice.
We learned about Ouyang Hongchang, an 18-year-old who joined the Red Army during the first “expansion” of the Central Soviet Area in the spring of 1932, driven by a steadfast belief in the revolution. On the eve of the Long March, he sent a letter from the front lines. Not a word was mentioned about the dangers of battle; instead, he conveyed heartfelt thoughts for his family and unwavering confidence in the revolution’s ultimate victory.
Throughout the Long March, the Party and the Red Army relied on their firm ideals and strong revolutionary will. They faced numerous near-collapses yet emerged stronger each time, overcoming incredible odds and achieving remarkable victories—miracles that continue to inspire.
Even now, letters like Ouyang’s remain treasured, the memories of our ancestors’ glory and dreams alive. The spirit of the Long March will forever be remembered, passed down through generations, and renewed over time.
