The highly anticipated performance “Huang Yi & Kuka” will take place on October 18 and 19 at Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium. Tickets are now available for this innovative fusion of modern dance and mechanical engineering, a collaboration between the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles and Caltech.
“Huang Yi & Kuka” is one of the most well-known works by the Huang Yi Studio, masterfully created by Taiwanese artist Huang Yi, who is a choreographer, dancer, and programmer. This performance showcases the exciting interaction between a robot and live dancers. Since its debut in 2012, it has toured over 100 performances across 19 countries and more than 42 cities worldwide.
Notably, in 2013, the performance was invited to headline the opening night of the Ars Electronica festival in Linz, Austria, and in 2015, it was selected as the “Most Anticipated New Work” at the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) in New York.
This year marks a significant milestone as “Huang Yi & Kuka” celebrates over 100 performances. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office has arranged a special fall tour in the United States to honor the occasion.
According to the Taipei Office, Taiwan is globally recognized for its technological prowess, and its artists excel at integrating artistic concepts with technological innovations. This performance not only serves as a kickoff for the studio’s U.S. tour but also marks a first-time collaboration between the Taipei Office and Caltech, supported by the Getty Center’s PST ART program.
