In October 2024, a month filled with peace and hope, the Ikebana branch of the San Gabriel Valley, led by Branch Head Yang Futing (as shown in the image), will once again hold its annual National Day Floral Exhibition. This year’s theme is “Peace,” featuring nearly 40 beautiful floral arrangements that express heartfelt wishes for global harmony, stability, and favorable weather conditions.
The exhibition is scheduled for October 19 and 20, from 10 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Los Angeles Chinese Cultural Center located at 9443 Telstar Ave, El Monte. Admission is free, and all those interested in floral art and culture are warmly invited to attend.
Yang Futing established the San Gabriel Valley branch in 2010, making it the first Ikebana branch led by Chinese Americans in the United States. Since then, it has become an essential platform for enthusiasts to learn and exchange ideas. With a rich history spanning over 565 years, Ikebana emphasizes “wa,” or harmony, focusing on balance and serenity within its floral compositions.
When discussing the theme of the exhibition, Yang Futing shared, “The creative process behind each floral arrangement reflects the balance and harmony found in nature. Through the careful placement of branches and the interplay of leaves and flowers, we aim not only to showcase beauty but also to convey a deep yearning for peace across the globe.”
