On October 10, 2024, the Beijing Animation Week officially kicked off in Beijing, with a theme of “Animation + Together is More Exciting.” This event aims to strengthen its role as a platform for the release of Chinese film and animation policies, showcase original Chinese animation achievements, and facilitate communication within the animation industry. The initiative also seeks to establish a center for original Chinese animation, a hub for leading talents in animation, and a center for technological innovation in the field.

Spanning five days, the event centers on policy development, theoretical advancements, and public services related to the animation industry. It features a range of activities including opening and closing ceremonies, forums, investment activities, exhibitions, a marketplace carnival, an animation concert, traditional cosplay events, and eSports game experiences. This diverse lineup is designed to create an interactive environment for animation professionals and deliver an enjoyable experience for animation enthusiasts.

The launch ceremony, themed “Painting the East,” focuses on high-quality animation creations and showcases achievements in Beijing’s animation sector. For the first time, it publicly unveiled a list of 18 outstanding animated films for 2024, including updates on the adaptation of the ancient Chinese painting “The Goddess of the Luo River” into animation. Representatives from various districts in Beijing and notable creators shared insights into the branding of popular domestic animation IPs and the intersection of animation and technology.

From October 11 to 13, during the public open days, attendees can obtain free tickets through the official public account. Over 40 animation companies, toy derivatives, and eSports brands will be featured, allowing audiences to participate in an animation symphony concert, puppetry musical theater, and eSports game experiences.

On the academic side, the event will host a keynote forum titled “Cultural Context: The Chinese Style of Chinese Animation,” as well as sub-forums focused on culture, creation, technology, gaming, and new industry opportunities. Notable domestic and international guests will be invited to discuss the development and future of Chinese animation. There will also be initiatives for emerging animation entrepreneurs to promote high-quality projects, alongside the 19th China (Beijing) International College Student Animation Festival awarding ceremony, providing a platform for young animators to network and showcase their work.

In addition to activities within the park, Beijing Animation Week will also feature film screenings, showcasing nearly 20 domestic animated films across five theaters in Beijing’s Xicheng District. Various television channels and online platforms will focus on broadcasting outstanding domestic animated television series as part of the event.
